Research Overview

Since 1974 Dr. Jewett has been conducting research on benthic ecology, trophic interactions, benthic impact assessments, Arctic ecosystems, and pollution/contamination monitoring. Most of his research has focused on impact assessment issues in marine waters, such as effects from Kasatochi Volcano eruption, Exxon Valdez oil spill, mercury and radionuclide contamination, El Niño, commercial trawling, log storage, offshore dredging, Alyeska Pipeline Terminal operations, and offshore/onshore mining. His most recent research has focused on AKMAP projects in the Aleutian Islands and the Chukchi Sea and assessment of offshore mining on the benthos of Norton Sound.
