Scholarship Opportunities
New Student Scholarships
Each semester, scholarships from the UAF School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences are available to new students (freshmen or transfer) entering the UAF B.S. or B.A. Fisheries degree programs. The number of awards given and award amounts vary, but typically range from $500.00 to $2,000.00. To be eligible, students must apply and be admitted to the UAF B.S. or B.A. Fisheries degree program.

UAF Hutton Junior Fishery Biology Award
Students receiving the American Fisheries Society Hutton Junior Fishery Biology Award will be awarded a $1,000.00 tuition scholarship if they are admitted to and enroll in the UAF B.S. or B.A. Fisheries degree program.
Returning Student Scholarships
Each spring, the UAF School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences awards four merit-based tuition scholarships, and one leadership scholarship to our most outstanding undergraduate fisheries students. To be eligible, students must be enrolled full-time (12 or more credits) and in either the UAF B.S. or B.A. Fisheries degree program.
The following tuition scholarships are awarded each spring:
- Outstanding Freshman – award amount $1,500.00
- Outstanding Sophomore – award amount $1,500.00
- Outstanding Junior – award amount $2,000.00
- Outstanding Senior – award amount $2,000.00
- Outstanding Leadership – award amount $1,000.00
Other Financial Aid:
A.W. "Winn" Brindle Memorial Education Loan Program:
The A.W. "Winn" Brindle Memorial Education Loan Program was established in memory of A.W. "Winn" Brindle who was president of the Wards Cove Packing Company and Columbia Wards Fisheries. It is funded by private donations and contributions from fisheries businesses in exchange for state tax credits. The funds provide educational loans to Alaska residents for full-time undergraduate or graduate study in fisheries-related programs.
