Research Overview
Tsunami Numerical Modeler for the Tsunami Warning and Environmental Observatory for Alaska (TWEAK) project. One of the goal of this project is to improve numerical tools for tsunami calculations. In general, my duties are:
1- Improve computer codes for accurate simulation of tsunami generation, propagation and runup. Improved codes are tested and validated in conjunction with the West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center (WCATWC) in Palmer, Alaska.
2- Develop a three-dimensional numerical model for tsunami calculation using full Navier-Stokes equations and the volume of fluid method to track the free surface.
3- Conducting research on tsunami wave generation, propagation and runup using existent hydrostatic 2D numerical models.
4- Assist in the development of hybrid numerical tool for tsunami calculation considering the hydrostatic and nonhydrostatic assumptions.
