Research Overview
My research interests are in applied fisheries ecology with an emphasis on anadromous fishes. I am particularly interested in, 1) the mechanisms that control the productivity of anadromous fish populations, 2) the effects of climate variability on anadromous fishes during their marine life phase, and 3) the linkages and interactions among different fish species and other trophic levels.
My current research investigates the early marine ecology of juvenile pink salmon in the northern Gulf of Alaska. The research characterizes the variability in size, condition, growth, and diet of juvenile pink salmon across different marine habitats. These characteristics are being evaluated together with marine survival rates to help identify mechanisms that control pink salmon marine survival in the northern Gulf of Alaska. In addition, the diet characteristics are being compared with zooplankton assemblages to investigate interactions between pink salmon and lower trophic levels.
