Thesis Title
Variability of resident and transient fish communities in changing kelp forest habitats
Career Goals
After completing my master’s thesis I would like to enter a state or federal agency such as NOAA or DFG to explore and describe the complexities of near-shore ecosystems, specifically kelp forest or sea ice habitats.

Education
- B.S. 2005 University of California Santa Cruz (Marine Biology)
Research Overview
I am comparing the biodiversity and size frequency of fish populations between forests dominated by the canopy forming algae, Nereocystis luetkeana and Druehlia fistulosa(formally Alaria fistulosa). Additionally, I will be comparing communities found in varying size kelp forest, from small patches to those extending miles along shore. My research will be conducted in Alaska's Aleutians Islands and Kachemak Bay.
Current Research Projects
- Differential sediment accumulations on arctic biotic and abiotic substrates
- Epihytes of over wintered Bull Kelp, Nereocystis luetkeana
- Kelp Forest Fish-Habitat Dynamics
