National Ocean Sciences Bowl

Seward, Alaska, April 2008

The University of Alaska Fairbanks will host the National Ocean Sciences Bowl (NOSB) Final Competition in Seward, Alaska on April 25-27, 2008.

The NOSB is a "quiz bowl" style academic competition for high school students in topics related to the study of the oceans. It provides an educational forum for students who excel in math and science to receive national recognition for their diligence and talents.

High school students compete in 25 regional NOSB competitions across the United States, including Alaska. The winning five-member team from each region attends the National Ocean Sciences Bowl competition. The national competition has been held in various locations across the contiguous United States, but never in Alaska.

The 2008 NOSB national finals will bring over 250 volunteers, students, judges, and family members to Seward. The additional cost of bringing this national competition to Alaska requires the support of Alaska's tourism industry, marine community and industry leaders. Visiting the state that boasts half of the U. S. coastline and the largest fishery in the world is an exciting opportunity for these talented marine-minded students. Your support for the NOSB finals in Alaska can help these high school students enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime educational trip to Alaska.
