Graduate student Joel Markis records data for his master's degree project on juvenile fish habitat in Kachemak Bay kelp communities. Markis, like many UAF graduate students, did his field research while headquartered at the Kasitsna Bay Lab. Photo by Ben Daly.

The Kasitsna Bay Laboratory is located on 15 wooded acres in one of the most productive marine ecosystems in the world-- Kachemak Bay, Alaska. The facility, which is nine miles from the nearest town of Seldovia, overlooks Kasitsna Bay, a scenic embayment protected by McDonald Spit. The lab includes a wet lab, dry labs, dive locker, and accommodation for up to 48 people.
