Rural Alaska Honors Institute (RAHI), University of Alaska Fairbanks
The Rural Alaska Honors Institute (RAHI) is a bridging program that assists students in Rural Alaska in making the academic and social transition between high school and college. RAHI is for college-bound students who are willing to work hard and who are dedicated to excellence.
The purpose of a bridging program is to assist students in making the academic and social transition between high school and college. The RAHI program is organized by the University of Alaska Fairbanks to serve Alaska Natives and rural Alaskans. The program is in support of third and fourth-year high school honors students -- applicants must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA -- who are committed to earning a college degree.
Curriculum & Benefits
Term: Summer
Courses: Writing and study skills are required courses. Then students can choose between Alaska Native Dance or Swimming. Students must choose a course in math, psychology, geoscience, or biochemistry. Lastly, students have the option of taking a desktop publishing or video production course.
Living: Accepted students are awarded a $6,000 scholarship to cover the travel and allow for weekly stipends. Students will live in official University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) dorms and have residential staff to provide supervision and tutoring services.
Extra: The top two academic students for the term are awarded tuition waivers from UAF.
