Summer Opportunities for High School Students

Camps, Internships, College Bridging Programs

The Hutton Junior Fisheries Biology Program

The Hutton Junior Fisheries Biology Program is a summer program for third and fourth year high school students. It is a sponsored by the American Fisheries Society. Though the program traditionally runs for eight weeks, students can arrange to work with mentors for a longer time. The principal goal of the Hutton Program is to stimulate interest in careers in fisheries science and management among groups underrepresented in the fisheries professions, including minorities and women. Application to the program is open to all sophomore, junior, and senior high school students regardless of race, creed, or gender. Students selected for the program are matched with a professional mentor in their area for a summer-long, hands-on experience in a marine or freshwater setting. A scholarship of $3,000 is awarded to each student accepted into the program.
