Review of Funding Sources for Fisheries Development Projects
Highly articulate competition from foreign farmed salmon has significantly reduced market share for the Alaska salmon industry. However, other sectors of the Alaskan seafood industry are also in financial difficulty. One of the problems is that US governments do not generally subsidize American enterprises. In the face of subsidized competition, Alaskan seafood harvesters, processors and marketers need other kinds of assistance. One avenue is through project oriented funding that will impact the profitability of the Alaskan seafood industry. The problem is that many, if not most of those involved in the Alaska seafood industry do not know where to seek such assistance. The goal of this project was to summarize the available funding sources that Alaskans might turn to for project oriented funding assistance, be they private, non-profit, or governmental agencies.
