Free software, "Salmon training," was developed to help recognize the 5 species of Pacific salmon together with the degree of their watermarking.  You can download this software by right-clicking below, and "save target as" into your computer.

October 2009.

Dr. Charles Crapo was awarded the 2009 Earl P. McFee award, given by the Atlantic Fisheries Technology Conference.  The award was bestowed in Copenhagen, Denmark, during the 3rd Joint Trans-Atlantic Fisheries Technology Conference (15-18 September 2009).
Dr. Crapo also recieved an award from the International Association of Fish Inspectors.  The Special Recognition award was given to him for his “career contributions to the profession of seafood inspection, science and technology, and related fields, in industry, academia, and government.” The award was announced during the World Seafood Congress, held in Agadir, Morocco, October 3–7, 2009.

January 2009.

2nd International Conference on Seafood Technology (ICST2), Jointly organized by FAO and the University of Alaska. In May 2010 the ICST2 will be held in Anchorage, Alaska.  The organization of the conference is progressing well.  Stay tuned to the Web site: ICST2010


October 2008.

Visit to Italy. Murat Balaban visited the University of Salerno, and participated in the Ph.D. presentation of Giovanna Ferrentino.  He also visited the Rome headquarters of the FAO and gave a seminar on the use of CO in seafood.Visit to Italy.pdf


May 2008.

Travel to Iceland and Turkey.  Murat Balaban visited Iceland and Turkey.  He was an invited keynote speaker in the First International Congress of Seafood Technology, held in Cesme, Izmir, Turkey.  A summary of his activities during this trip are given in the following pdf presentation: Visit to Iceland and Turkey.pdf
