At the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF), Trent has served on ten (10) division committees, two (2) committees in the School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, and three (3) committees at the University level.

Since 2003, he has chaired the graduate committees for ten (10) master's degree students and four (4) doctoral students at Purdue University and UAF Currently, Trent is serving as the advisor for eight (8) master's and one (1) doctoral graduate students at these two institutions.

Trent is also currently serving on the graduate committees for four (4) master's degree and one (1) doctoral degree students in the School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, as well as one master's degree student each at South Dakota State University (Brookings, South Dakota) and the University of Waterloo (Waterloo, Ontario).
