Senator Ted Stevens Kenai River Sportfishing Association Scholarship
The Senator Ted Stevens Kenai River Sportfishing Association Scholarship Program was established in 2003 to honor Senator Stevens' legacy of conservation efforts in Alaska, and his love of sportfishing, particularly for King Salmon on the Kenai River. It pays tribute to his leadership, vision and efforts in preserving the Kenai River watershed and the fish that inhabit its waters.
Seven tuition scholarships will be awarded annually to outstanding students in these categories: (2) Kenai Peninsula College Scholarships, (4) Bachelor of Science Scholarships to any University of Alaska campus, and (1) Postgraduate Scholarship for masters or doctoral degrees in the University of Alaska system.
The scholarship program exists to encourage students to study, research and work toward enhancing the Kenai River ecosystem, with the goal of bettering and saving this unique environment for future generations. It is expected that candidates plan of study include one of the following: biology, fisheries, natural sciences, environmental science, environmental engineering or marine sciences.
Eligibility: To be eligible to receive a scholarship, a Ted Stevens KRSA Scholar must submit:
- A signed agreement to volunteer the summer of scholarship notification to assist with the Kenai River Classic for the entire tournament (a three day event in July). If needed, airfare from an Alaskan location, per diem and lodging will be paid for by KRSA. If the student does not fulfill this obligation, the scholarship will be denied.
- A Financial Needs Estimate Form
- All official transcripts upon completion of the scholarship year, a typed narrative of 300-500 words, accompanied by a recent photograph for publication. The narrative will describe the benefits of the Ted Stevens KRSA Scholarship.
- A written acceptance of the award to KRSA, if accepted.
- Other items as specified in the three scholarship categories.
Due date: Scholarship application packets are due to KRSA by March 15.
Application: The scholarship application form is available online at KRSA's website. Announcement of recipients will be made by May 15th. Awardees will be notified by phone. Non-awardees will be notified by mail.
