SFOS Student Forum Meetings

First Meeting: October 3, 2005

Notes:

Introductions- Attendees: Gayle Neufeld, Teresa Tanner, Miranda Plumb, Alison Banks, Lisa Baraff

Purpose of this meeting- an opportunity for ALL SFOS students to gather and share research ideas, concerns about program issues, passing ideas onto the student affair committees, and a chance to have social interactions (going out to dinner) with fellow students. This time could also be used as trial presentations and personal improvement sessions.

Possible names- Attendees decided that Forum would be most appropriate. Students did not want to turn this into a negative complaining session or a “support group” per say. Emphasis was placed on keeping this time as constructive and positive experience. “SFOS student forum” was suggested and accepted as the name. This will allow for all SFOS students (including undergraduates) to attend.

Concerns were expressed about low attendances and how to build up attendance to these meetings. A pizza party was suggested for next meeting. Faculty will be invited to next meeting but won’t be present at all meetings. Gayle Neufeld will put together a survey about what students would like to accomplish at these meetings.

Went over the student survey results that were sent out last summer.

Next meeting scheduled for October 14 (Friday) from 12-1p in 138 IRV II.
